Why You Should Skip Synthetic Fragrance in Your Beauty Routine

Why You Should Skip Synthetic Fragrance in Your Beauty Routine

If you smell good, you feel good. Right? Wrong... well, if you’re using synthetic fragrances, that is. From makeup and skincare, to body care and hair products, synthetic fragrances are lurking in our beauty routines, and we don’t even know!

How is this possible?

In the United States, the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (1966) and the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (amended 1938) regulate and enforce guidelines on beauty packaging. While brands are required to list ingredients on their labels, fragrance is able to sneak through a small loophole. According to these laws, ingredients that are considered trade secrets, such as fragrance, do not have to be listed. In other words, if a brand feels that the specifics of their fragrance is proprietary and will give competitors an advantage, they do not have to disclose it on the packaging.

So why should we skip synthetic fragrance?

Synthetic fragrance is not made from just one ingredient, but rather from a combination of dozens, or even hundreds of different chemicals. Using products with synthetic fragrance exposes our bodies to a myriad of potentially dangerous and harmful toxins we’re not even aware of. While you may not show any adverse symptoms from using these products, exposure over time can build up, leading to more serious issues.

One of the most common ingredients in fragrance is phthalates, which are used to extend the life of a fragrance. Phthalates are actually endocrine disruptors, and your body will absorb these when they’re in your beauty products.

Why Wander Beauty avoids synthetic fragrance

At Wander Beauty, the health and safety of our #WanderBeauties is always our top priority. All of our multitaskers are cruelty free and free of parabens, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), sodium laureth sulfate (SLES), mineral oil and synthetic fragrance.

We keep it safe, simple, and effective. Fewer, better, beauty essentials to keep you smelling and feeling good, synthetic fragrance-free.
