Morning Routine Inspiration for Women On The Go

By Wander Beauty | Sep 09, 2022

Wander Beauty was created by Divya Gugnani, serial entrepreneur and mom, and Lindsay Ellingson, jet-setting supermodel and mom, so when we say we get the struggle (and necessity) of creating a time-efficient morning routine, we mean it

This is why we created a range of effortless everyday essentials – to help streamline your routine so that you can spend more time doing what you love. Your morning skin care and beauty routine consist of more than just what you put on your skin. It includes quality sleep, proper nutrition, and a bit of planning.

Here's a healthy morning routine for boss babes on the go. It covers all the basics so that you can adapt and personalize it.

Your morning routine begins the night before

Prepping the night before for the day ahead is one of the most important habits you can develop to create a calm and productive morning. Prep your breakfast, pack your lunch, decide on your outfit, and write your to-do list so you’re clear on what to expect for the day. This eliminates much of the stress you’d otherwise encounter before even having your morning coffee! It helps you save time and sets you up to start the day fully prepared and in a positive mood.

Practice good sleep hygiene and get an early start

Not getting enough sleep and missing your alarm are both likely to result in a bad mood, and thus a bad day. Good sleep hygiene includes a regular sleep pattern, seven to eight hours of sleep, and limiting blue light exposure and caffeine before bed so that your sleep is deep and restful. This way, you’ll be able to get an early start and feel energized and productive throughout the day. Not only does waking up early offer you more time in the morning to get ready, do a workout, or practice self-care, but studies have shown it can also reduce your risk of depression by 23%, improve your sleep rhythms and quality, and enhance your job performance.

Skip the updates and opt for mindfulness

In the Forbes article “Why You Should Stop Checking Your Phone In The Morning”, psychologist Jai Rai explains that when you first wake up, your brain switches from delta waves (which occur during deep sleep) to theta waves (a daydream-like state) and then into alpha waves (where you're awake but relaxed). Reaching for your phone to check emails or scroll through social media forces your body to skip the theta and alpha states and move straight into the wide-awake beta state. Jumping straight into a beta state primes your brain for distraction and can trigger a stress response that will put you on edge for the rest of your day.

Because theta is a highly positive state of free flow, it's the ideal time to meditate, and receive ideas and inspiration. So, rather than checking your phone, it is suggested that you use this time to clear your mind and visualize your day. Just five to fifteen minutes of mindful breathing, yoga, or a gentle walk will mentally and physically set you up for a good day – that is, a day where you are calm, focused, and actively achieving your goals. Realistically, meditation and exercise are probably the first things you forgo when your schedule is hectic. This, however, would be a mistake, as this time can give you more clarity and mental energy in the long run.

Hydrate and nourish

It is recommended to drink at least 16oz of fresh water as soon after waking up as possible. Not only does this rehydrate your body, improving digestion, metabolism, and energy levels, but it can also increase your skin's radiance and add shine to your hair.

Once you've done your meditation and rehydrated your body, it's time for breakfast! Whether you're going for a bowl of overnight oats, a superfood smoothie, or everyone’s favorite – avocado on toast – a healthy breakfast provides you with essential nutrients to power your brain and boost your energy. It can also be a great time to plan your day or spend some quality time with your family before going off in different directions.

Simplify your skincare and makeup routine

We all dream of having a full hour to indulge in a steamy shower, care for our skin and apply makeup, but that's not always the reality. Even with limited time, you can still practice good skin care and leave the house feeling gorgeous. A basic skincare routine consists of three foundational steps: cleanse, hydrate, and protect. Choose a facial cleanser that will nourish and revitalize your skin such as Wander Beauty’s Drift Away Cleanser, then use a face moisturizer ideal for your skin type, and apply a high-quality sunscreen such as Pack Up & Glow Priming Mineral SPF (note that you’ll need to reapply sunscreen every two hours). Any additional steps should be specific to your skin needs.<product>1,2</product>

To create a quick natural makeup look, apply your choice of liquid or powder foundation. For a more dewy, radiant complexion, mix the best face oil for glowing skin, Glow Ahead Illuminating Face Oil, into your liquid foundation. Follow with a touch of color to your lips, cheeks, and eyelids, and finish off with the best mascara, Unlashed Volume and Curl Mascara.<product>3</product>
