Makeup Artist Tips: Melissa Hurkman's Mask Makeup Routine

By Wander Beauty | Jul 08, 2020

Los Angeles-based makeup artist, Melissa Hurkman, shares her mask makeup tips!

Start With Skincare:

Melissa is a big fan of masking while masking! Our new Staycation Hydrating Mask is perfect for this. This 3-in-1 multitasking treatment can be used as rinse-off mask, daily moisturizer, or overnight mask. The formula is packed with ceramides and peptides to improve skin texture and prevent moisture loss. According to Melissa, the secret here is to make sure you’re not using too much product. Apply a pea-sized amount all over the face.<product>1</product>

All About The Eyes:

Since the lower half of your face will be covered by your mask, the eyes are the focal point of the look. Pop on a pair of Baggage Claim Eye Masks to hydrate and brighten the under eyes. The middle elastic layer prevents the masks from slipping so you can continue on with makeup while Baggage Claim works its magic.<product>2</product>

Add a couple coats of Mile High Club Volume and Length Mascara to bring lashes to new heights and open up the eyes. It’s smudge-proof, flake-proof, and water-resistant for all day wear. The wand has precise bristles so you can grab every single lash for a flirty and fanned out effect.

Remove the Baggage Claim Eye Masks after 10-15 minutes and tap the remaining serum into the skin.<product>3</product>

Correct and Conceal:

Use the matte stick side of the Dualist Matte and Illuminating Concealer to conceal any blemishes and discoloration. Then, use the illuminating liquid side to brighten the under eyes while keeping the area hydrated.

Lightly swipe a powder bronzer on the areas where you'd like to add some extra warmth.<product>4</product>

Melissa's Must-Have:

Melissa loves blush! Even if no one sees it, it's one of her must-haves! Use the cream color side of the On-The-Glow Blush and Illuminator to add a natural flush to the cheeks and nose.<product>5</product>

Lastly, the lips:

To finish off the look, apply a balm to the lips. Go with a clear shade like Swipe from Double Date Lip and Cheek so it won't transfer onto your mask.<product>6</product>
