Beauty Basics: How To Cover Up a Pimple
By Cassidy Best | May 27, 2020We all know the feeling: you wake up feeling like Beyonce, but when you go to wash your face, you feel the painful beginning of a giant zit. Ugh - the WORST. Whatever you do, DON’T pick at it. It may be tempting but you must resist! Picking at it will only make covering and healing the pimple a more difficult process. So what do you do? Read on for everything you need to know about concealing a pimple.
Step 1: Exfoliate
To help even out the skin’s texture, your plan of attack should begin with exfoliating. We recommend using a chemical exfoliant so as to not irritate the tender area. Apply an even layer of Fast Lane Instant Facial and let it sit for 20 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. The mixture of 10% AHA and 2% BHA will help to smooth the skin and unclog pores.
Step 2: Moisturize
Moisturizing will help address any remaining texture to create a smooth canvas for makeup application. Use a moderate amount of Dive In Moisturizer and make sure to let it soak in completely before moving on.<product>1</product>
Step 3: Conceal
After you’ve prepped your skin thoroughly, it’s time to conceal. For the best coverage, you’ll want to make sure you’re using a matte concealer. As a general rule, matte concealers erase, while illuminating or brightening concealers accentuate and highlight. So if you want to brighten your under eyes after a sleepless night, use an illuminating concealer. But if you’re trying to cover up a pimple, steer clear of illuminating concealers as they will draw light to the area.
Begin by applying the matte concealer directly on the skin. If you prefer using tools, a flat concealer brush would work best. A little goes a long way here. If you add too much product to a raised surface (like a zit), you’ll draw attention to it. The key here is to add the concealer little by little and blend as you go. Use the warmth of your fingers to tap in and melt the product into your skin.
Step 4: Add an Extra Layer of Coverage
If there’s still redness remaining, or you just like an extra layer of coverage, try adding a layer of foundation. Blend by tapping a cushion all over your face. Swiping motions with a cushion or a brush will smudge all of the hard work you just did to cover the pimple. To set everything in place, tap a light layer of Play All Day Translucent Powder all over.<product>2</product>
Bonus Tip: Repeat
If the pimple is still peeking through after you’ve set your foundation, re-apply a layer of concealer and set once again with translucent powder. Finish the rest of your makeup and you’re good to go!
