Clean Beauty Brand Founders and Industry Insiders Launch the Clean Beauty Summer School Sponsored by New Voices Foundation

LA-based brand Tower 28 is honored to present the Clean Beauty Summer School: a collective effort by female founders and brand experts in the beauty industry to support the growth of majority Black-owned small beauty businesses. This initiative was born from a quest to help the fight against systemic racism and injustice, through spotlighting and supporting Black entrepreneurs in the clean beauty industry. So much of a brand’s success in this crowded industry can be attributed to education, network, mentorship, and opportunity - advantages that are not readily available for everyone. As such, the program has been built around these four pillars.
The Clean Beauty Summer School comprises a group of beauty industry veterans turned entrepreneurs who are still in the early stages of building their companies from the ground up, along with advisors and experts who are critical to a brand’s success. Together, this group is excited to help advance the beauty industry to become a more diverse and inclusive space.
Applications for the Clean Beauty Summer School will open on July 1st, with 10 finalists selected by July 15th. To enter, brands must be majority Black-owned, a beauty business (anywhere from prototype to launched with limited distribution), focused on clean and/or sustainable CPG/hard goods (or working towards it), and have 3 employees or fewer. Participants will attend a ten session course throughout the month of August and early September, learning valuable skills from the expert mentors, such as product development and manufacturing, digital marketing, financial planning, fundraising, pitching retailers, and more. Additionally, each participant will be assigned a mentor who will help guide them one-on-one through Summer School in preparation for the pitch day. The program will culminate with a Pitch Day, where each participant will present to a panel of judges, including Sephora and Ulta Beauty buyers, a beauty editor, and potential investors.
The winning company will receive guaranteed meetings with both Sephora and Ulta Beauty buyers plus a $10,000 grant from the New Voices Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization offering women of color entrepreneurs access, capital, and expertise to build, grow and scale their businesses with purpose via flexible funding, learning and networking opportunities.
